MICROGENERATION – POTENTIAL TO POWER

The Micropower Council today warmly welcomed a report by the Energy Savings Trust (EST), which shows that microgeneration could deliver 40% of electricity needs by 2050.

The EST report, Potential for Microgeneration, study and analysis, is a study for the Department of Trade and Industry into the potential of microgeneration and how small scale localised heat and power could fuel the UK’s future energy needs.

Bryan Gray, Vice President of the Micropower Council said: “The findings of this study are enormously important for the microgeneration industry and the transition to a low carbon economy. It shows that microgeneration has the potential to deliver and it is now important that the right policy framework is put in place to achieve this. This means the success of measures such as Mark Lazarowicz’s Bill which contains the targets and policies necessary to stimulate the demand for microgeneration, to bring down prices and achieve benefits for all.”

Microgeneration, (the production of sustainable energy by individuals or small groups of householders) is one of the crucial measures needed to help achieve CO2 reductions and help alleviate fuel poverty.
